Interesting!

As enhancements go, I'd say there's a difference between people trying to "get back to baseline" and people trying to "go beyond the baseline". E.g. antidepressants and a portion of stimulant and testosterone use is people trying to get back to a degree of happiness, function or vitality that is considered normal. Of course you could argue that a 60 year old man being as vital as a 40 year old man is to some degree superhuman. You could also argue that what is considered normal has moved up so significantly that we might be starting to expect a level of functioning as a baseline that is simply not feasible for - perhaps - the bottom 20% of people to sustain without enhancement. Still though, I have more sympathy for the former group than the latter.

Good observation. But what about caffeine, alcohol, nicotine, weed, etc.? We’ve been modifying for a long time. It’s just that we have higher-powered options now.
